Lula: ‘What’s going on in Gaza with Palestinians has never occurred before. Actually it has: when Hitler chose to slaughter the Jews.
Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva accused Israel on Sunday of committing a “genocide” against Palestinian people in Gaza, comparing the Jewish state’s conflict with Hamas to the Nazi Holocaust.
“What’s happening in the Gaza Strip isn’t a war, it’s a genocide,” the far-left leader told reporters during an African Union conference in Addis Ababa. Not a soldier-on-soldier conflict. War between a well-prepared army against women and children.”
“What’s occurring with Palestinians in Gaza is unprecedented. It occurred when Hitler killed Jews.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz called the Brazilian ambassador to censure the “shameful and egregious” comments.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Lula’s “shameful” comparison of Israel to Hitler and the Holocaust was wrong.
